The Trumpeter Community Health Project prioritises investment in the knowledge of the TCHP workers.

Trumpeter training
Trumpeter training session

There is a long way to go in developing the South Sudan healthcare system to be fully-functioning and in the meantime, the Trumpeters are bridging the gap and receive regular training to facilitate this. The Trumpeter Community Health workers’ roles are tailored to meet the needs of those living in Juba’s formal and informal settlements. They have recently benefited from training on the following topics:

  • Prevention of diarrhoeal diseases in children under five years
  • Safe excreta disposal
  • Environment and diarrhoea-related diseases
  • Practice of hand washing and oral rehydration solutions
  • Key behaviours of hygiene and sanitation change on the household and community level
  • Communication skills and conducting interviews with parents, community leaders and government officials
  • Natural medicines: benefits for prevention of diarrhoea and how to prepare and use them
  • Community-led total sanitation process
  • Nutrition education

Please keep praying with us at Anglican International Development for the work of the Trumpeter Community Health Project.  Thank God that church networks can be used to recruit Trumpeter workers and pray for the planned expansion into Gondokoro, a suburb of Juba previously unreached with WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) education.
