How we work
AID desires to create projects which seek to empower people to solve their own problems and in the future take control of projects themselves.
We do not seek to impose solutions but instead work with our contacts and partners in the developed and developing world, taking into account the needs and requirements of local people and approaching each project as unique and individual.
We work with partners, institutions and local churches to understand current circumstances and capabilities before tailoring support in the most appropriate and effective way.
Working with Churches
Wherever possible, we work with and through local churches. Using churches as enablers, we can integrate projects into local communities in a sustainable way and continue to support people in managing and building independence and capacity. For example, in South Sudan we work primarily with our partner, the Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS) which has close contact with the vast majority of South Sudanese communities. Women are drawn into our microfinance project through local churches and pastors encourage women to make loan repayments. The ECS has a strong voice at the national level to challenge governments and change policies and it is equally well-respected at the local level.
As well as this, we work to strengthen local churches and equip them to serve their communities practically and spiritually for the advancement of the gospel.
Working with Partners
Our on-the-ground activities are delivered by experienced local Christians with a passion for the area they each focus on. For example, our agriculture work is led by Thomas Lubari, head of Life Gospel Ministries, and the Trumpeters sanitation project is led by Remijo Lado Lino.
Communication and Accountability
Our UK office maintains weekly contact with those involved with running ongoing projects in East Africa who send regular, detailed reports of outcomes and progress. In turn, we relay this information to our supporters and partners who enable our work through news on our website, email contact, postal updates and social media accounts.
